The teams ran out onto the pitch to the sound of 5000 screaming fans, taking up positions for what was to be the first kick of a brutal away game for the Manglerz!
Da Beaten Bruiserz lined up in force, sporting a full squad of 6 Black Orks, backed up by 4 Goblins and the team's Troll, opting to kick to the away team.
The pressure mounted up early with the Manglerz opening up a break down the left side of the pitch. As the team focussed on slipping the ball past the Bruiserz' big punchers, the players were roused by a wild cheer as one of the Bruiserz' Black Orks surfed a Manglerz' Blitzer, Thul Spleenrippa (#13) into the frantic crowd, who promptly passed the player up the stands, and over the side of the stadium. Fans were delighted, however, by the sight of Thul trotting back into the stadium several minutes later, and joining the team in the dugout, albeit covered in decorative tapestry and bits of, what looked like, the remains of a food stand.
Regaining its awareness, the Bruiserz' Troll delivered a brutal block that saw another of the Manglerz' Blitzers carried off the pitch on a stretcher. We received an official update from the Manglerz' medical staff that Mozrog Suneater (#5) will, in fact, miss the next game.
The play progressed with a fumbled pass from the Manglerz' thrower, which was promptly recovered by Balgath Gitblitza (#19) as he shot off upfield, with a clear path to the Bruiserz' End Zone. His attempt was nearly shattered as one of the Bruiserz' Black Orks miraculously dodged away from his marker, promising to deliver a world of pain to Balgath's helmet-clad head. Luckily for the Manglerz, he slipped just short of throwing a punch.
Having shaken the threat, Balgath spent the remainder of the drive stalling near his opponent's End Zone, entertaining the crowds as they rained insults and cups of questionable liquids in coach Squigthrower's direction, for employing such a filthy tactic.
The half ended with the Blitzer walking the ball in, securing a 1-0 lead for his team.

After a short break, the 2nd half kicked off with one of the Bruiserz' Goblins catching the high kick and forming a classic cage, with Black Orks securing its front 2 corners. Their aggressive effort was dismantled, however, as the Manglerz' threw all available bodies into the formation, resulting in the Bruiserz' Goblin ball carrier being sacked.
Living up to his name, Balgath Gitblitza threw aside the Goblin Bruiser blocking his path before recovering the ball and extending the lead with another touchdown, leaving the score at 2-0.
Sensing the game slipped away from them, Da Beaten Bruiserz mounted a full offensive opting to, instead, cause as many casualties as possible. In his best effort, the team's Troll vomited onto one of the Manglerz' Black Orks, leaving him covered in bile and bits of squig, but otherwise unharmed.
As the closing minutes ticked away, both teams appeared to have lost interest in the ball entirely, engaging in a good, old-fashioned brawl, which saw the vast majority of the Manglerz' picking themselves up off the astrogranite as the referee blew the final whistle, and the Bruiserz' home stadium stands descended into chaos.
In a post-game conference, coach Squigthrower told us:
"It was a tough game for sure. Seeing your players on their back is not something any Ork coach is used to, but the Bruiserz' brought their A game and didn't make the win easy."
As the Bruiserz coach took the stand he remarked:
"It was a very enjoyable game to be at... wait, what? What do you mean you can't find him?"
As our sources tell us Bruiserz' player #13, Krumpet, has been allegedly taken hostage by the club's enraged ultras, who were appalled by the player's performance tonight! We hear that the opposition, however, wants him on the pitch by the next game, Nuffle knows why!
With a win in their pocket, the Iron Gorge Manglerz returned home to, undoubtedly, recover, analyze, and train in preparation for their next fixture which will be announced shortly.
Thank you for joining us and stay tuned for the announcement of game 2 of the 6th Humberside Blood Bowl League season!
